This post is all about my current pregnancy skin care routine and essentials, keep in mind that every pregnancy is different the products that I used here may have worked for me but I don’t guarantee that it may work for others as well. My skincare routine when I was not pregnant is very simple and basic; cleanse, tones and moisturize (with SPF protection). I still maintained these routines when I got pregnant I just added a few things to it.
Yeah, there are times that I find the world of skincare to be somewhat overwhelming. There are so many options here and there. Every time I purchase something that I will use for my skin I always make sure to read the contents of the product and the reviews of different people who actually used it.
For my Face
A general rule of thumb for me is to always removed my makeup before cleansing (If I’m wearing makeup). Regular facial wash or soaps alone won’t sufficiently dissolve heavy-duty sunblock and long-wearing makeup, especially around the eyes. I used baby wipes for this, make sure to wipe your face gently as possible so you’re not rubbing and tugging at your skin. For the eyes, dip a cotton bud soaked in oil ( I used sunflower oil for this) and gently removed stains around your eyes that was not thoroughly removed by the wipes.
After removing my make up I wash my face with Dove Soap with coconut milk in the morning and Celeteque Dermoscience Hydration Gentle Exfoliating Facial Wash at night.
So, I’ve been using this soap for almost 2 weeks now, I also used this on my body. With 1/4 moisturizing cream Dove is known for being a very mild soap it feels like a body lotion but lathers up once it comes in contact with water. It’s thick & creamy, and feels super silky on the skin, but leaves no residue or greasy film behind.
I like that this is a hypoallergenic and fragrance-free facial wash. It has dual nourishing beads infused with vitamin C and E that gently cleanse and nourish the skin. My skin feels thoroughly clean after cleansing my face using this, without that tight, dry feeling that I usually get from cleansers or soaps with harsh or strong formula.
I’ve been using this toner for years now, I love that this is an alcohol-free toner, plus its very affordable pa. Alcohol-Free Face Toner refreshes skin without stripping its own natural moisturizers so you can get a clean, refreshing toning experience without the harsh drying effects of alcohol. The product claims that it is made of natural plant extracts such as witch hazel and mangosteen, which have antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-aging properties. The toner gently cleanses the face of impurities and effectively removes residual makeup. It helps smoothen the skin’s texture by controlling oil production, minimizing pores and moisturizing the skin. I use the this twice a day morning and night.
I’m so in love with this product, but I always have to wait for it to be on sale before I can buy it. It’s so easy to apply and it absorbs rather quickly. It hydrates and gives moisture to my skin, leaving it soft and supple. It gives my skin an even skin tone, it has enough SPF protection (SPF 15). I like the mild and fresh fragrance it has, some day creams have a strong aroma that makes me sneeze. The consistency of the texture is lightweight that sinks into the skin in a matter of seconds. Yes, after years of using this product I believe it is making my skin look younger and fresher.
We all know after a certain age we have to take care of our skin and maintain to prevent signs of aging. The serum is a skincare product you can apply to your skin after cleansing but before moisturizing with the intent of delivering powerful ingredients directly into the skin. This serum really did wonders for me together with the day cream moisturizer. It really makes my skin softer and smoother plus the younger and fresher look. The serum is colorless, very light, runny and thin in texture- absolutely non-sticky and non-heavy. Just apply a small amount on your face day and night. The 50 ml serum lasts a long while depending on the amount you will use.
For my body (stretchmark warriors)
It is very essential for a pregnant woman to keep her body hydrated and moisturize to avoid or at least prevent those stubborn stretch marks. Most woman, worries about developing stretch marks at some point in her life. And once pregnancy rolls around, there’s no escaping the inevitable – your skin will pull and stretch to accommodate the miracle of your life and leave behind marks in its wake. Some people say it may diminish over time but will not disappear completely. Currently at 31 weeks, I developed stretch marks on my thighs and butt, fortunately, I have none on my belly part yet (crossing my fingers it will not appear anytime soon!)
I’m currently using this combo of dove with coconut milk soap and dove go fresh cucumber green tea body wash for my bath time. It leaves my skin soft, moisturize, feeling cool and refreshingly hydrated. I love the crisp, soothing scent of cucumber and green tea It mixes the sweetness of cucumbers with the freshness of green tea (if you don’t like the scent of cucumbers and green tea, this is not for you), it makes bath time more relaxing and fun.
Body lotions, and oils
I began using Bio-Oil after reading several blogs and watching Youtube reviews. It also has some promising ingredients that are known to be great on the skin. I gently massage this into my belly, thigh, breast, and butt in a circular motion until it is fully absorbed by the skin. This, however, did not work for me and I find it expensive around Php480 for 60 ml bottle. I also find it greasy for my preference.
Human Nature’s sunflower oil has always been in my stash for the longest time already, I used it whenever I run out of facial moisturizer or sometimes I used it as a body moisturizer too. For stretch marks, don’t expect too much just like bio-oil it only makes my skin moist for a couple of hours but this is a good investment for your other related beauty concerns.
It claims to reduce the appearance of stretch marks with a special blend of pure Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E, and Shea Butter. This non-greasy, all over body lotion helps improve elasticity and suppleness of stretching skin during and after pregnancy. I love the smell of this it smells like a baby scent for me, the texture is a bit heavy but melts into my skin. I emptied 2 bottles and then I discontinued using it because it’s expensive, my belly is growing bigger and bigger so my consumption increased.
I was doing some research for affordable alternatives for preventing/removing stretch marks aside from using branded lotions, oils, and creams and I stumbled on some blogs and reviews that virgin coconut oil works great to remove stretch marks. With skin healing, repairing and moisturizing properties, coconut oil reduce the stretch marks effectively. Apart from fading the stretch marks, coconut oil also hydrates the skin and keeps it soft.
I’m using Naturali Premium Cold-Pressed Virgin Coconut Oil, it is a premium grade virgin coconut oil extracted from fresh coconuts without using any heat treatment. The oil is cold pressed to retain the fresh scent and mild taste of coconut. It contains no trans fats, chemicals or other additives. I bought this 100ml bottle for Php120 at the Parenting Emporium. What I love about this is that it gets easily absorbed by my skin and does not leave a greasy feeling.
Above all these, always remember to always eat healthy. Drink lots of water, keeping your self-hydrated is the best skin care advice that I can give. Even before getting pregnant I don’t consume carbonated drinks for more than five years already. I can usually drink a minimum of 5 liters of water a day or more but now that I’m pregnant I consume more than that.
Stay happy and healthy pregnant ladies! =)
